101: Laws of motion !

These days I’m getting interested in science and science fiction. Come to know about sir Isaac Newton and his laws of motion.

The first law says about inertia and says that any object in stationary or moving position will remain so until a greater and opposite force is applied. I’m thinking it’s because the energy is not destroyed but can only be transferred. This also applies to other things like the thoughts, unless there is another stronger thought you continue on same topic. If topic ends you think of new one.

The second law gives the formula to calculate net force, F=ma and the force is measured in Newtons, very cool! I’m going to say if I get to discover something like this then I will measure it in AA units lol.

The third law says for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction! This law has been my favorite for some time now as my family uses this often to teach me how to do things.

Basically all the laws of motion are helping us understand the physics behind the day to day activities.

  1. And just like in Physics the external force that causes an idle mind to think profound thoughts is your post!!
Love your insight and am very proud of you. Keep up the good work.

  2. I’m glad to see you are having fun with physics. It’s my favorite subject. You’ve got the Newton’s laws down already. Way to go.

Let me ask you the horse-cart question: a horse refuses to pull a cart. When asked why, it says no matter how hard I pull the cart, according to Newton’s third law, the cart’s going to pull back just as hard (equal and opposite). So how is motion possible?

What do you think? What would you tell the horse?

    1. Haha horse is a slacker. Because there is also a pull against gravitational force and if horse pulls forward with greater strength than the gravitational force with better net force then it can pull the cart forward. Basically net force and first law. Ok?

      1. The horse is correct that no matter how hard it pulls there will be an equal and opposite force. But, they will be acting on different bodies.

It’s called a “frame of reference”

The pull of the horse Acts on the cart and results in forward motion.

The pull of the cart acts on the horse and is countered by its muscles (or by a some fuel in case of machines) If the cart is heavy the horse will feel its muscles ache because of this reaction force.

    1. Thank you for the encouragement. I’m hopeful for new research and ideas to come soon on my blog. Stay tuned. More later.
