Remote learning is not what education should look like. I’m going to share how remote learning is disappointing and question the education system on certain downsides of this approach.
Remote learning is a good option for some people and is the only option for everyone in pandemic times. Remote learning experience is quite new to 1.2 billion kids around the world and also a challenge to our well intended educators. Before this becomes the new normal, everyone should also look at the downside to question widespread adaptation of this possibility.
I’m hereby hoping that the following items are adequately considered before determining the apposite option for future education.
The following effects the experience of education when learning happens remotely.
1. Remote learning weathers social connections and social connections are what defines a child’s childhood.
- Kids are anxious, annoyed and frustrated because of isolation. Learning remotely does not help them create memories and let them experience their childhood at the fullest.
- All children may not be able or willing to verbalize their feelings to you and therefore it’s important to have other options to help them articulate their fears and feelings.
- Several experts cite examples of impact on social and emotional issues of kids and alternative solutions. The alternative are good temporarily but not forever!
2. Elearning is not the same experience for all kids, a lot of learning and quality of learning depends upon the family’s educational background, access to technology and resources.
3. Top of the line, kids that are looking for additional help and support only have frustrated stories of learning experience.
- There are several articles on the internet that explain important aspect of missing special education services that can be crucial for some students. Remote education does not cater to kids receiving services one on one. Ironically if a kid is able to learn with out additional support, he wouldn’t need one on one support. But with remote learning he first need to learn to learn let one support remotely before learning anything else making the slope of the learning curve very steep.
Conclusion
Can the remote learning families say that their kids are learning? Can we assure the future generation is getting the foundation they need to build the future? Think again!!!

You are correct. Humans are social animals. Social interactions are very much a basic human need. Hope this remoteness blows away soon. Hang in there!
